Page Joins Wyoming's Historic NCAA Contingent
May 26, 2014
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Junior Holly Page has become the University of Wyoming's 15th member to qualify for the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. That number represents the most athletes UW has sent to the regional meet in the four-year history of the current qualifying system.
Page was ranked 49th in the 10,000 meters when the field was announced late last week, but a medical scratch over the weekend gives the Cowgirl a spot in the event. Page missed making the original top 48 by less than two seconds.
To reach the NCAA's East or West Preliminary meet, an athlete must be ranked in the region's top 48 of his/her event. From there, the top 12 finishers in each event at the two regional meets will receive an invitation to the NCAA Championships on June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore. Wyoming has advanced just one student-athlete past the preliminary round, as Jeremiah James made the NCAA Championships in the triple jump in 2010.
