MONCTON, N.B. - Wyoming junior track and field athlete Jenna Mann and recently graduated senior Henry Ferreira put together strong performances Saturday to finish competition at the 2013 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Hoping for a shot at the IAAF World Championships in August, Mann completed the heptathlon in sixth place with 4,852 points after starting the day with 2,939 from Friday's combined events. She placed sixth in both the long jump (18'-1", 703 points) and javelin throw (97'-10.5") before finishing eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.53 for 737 points. The top three finishers advanced to the IAAF Championships.

"Jenna went out and competed to the best of her ability, which is all we can ask from her," said UW assistant coach Shaun Meinecke. "She's making a name for herself and people are starting to recognize her name and face and put them with Wyoming Track. She's a great representative of our program and can only get better from here on out."

Ferreira, from St. Paul, Alberta, finished the javelin throw late Saturday night with an eighth-place distance of 202'-9." Kyle Nielsen of the Langley Mustangs club won the event with a throw of 250'-1.25" and advances to the IAAF World Championships with two others.

"Although I know he wanted to throw it farther, I think Henry did a great job of making it to the finals of the Canadian national championships," said UW associate head coach Paul Barrett. "He has had a great season with many personal records set and topped the year off at the MW Championships with a Wyoming school record javelin throw of 224 feet."

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships take place Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
