Cowgirls Earn Award for Eight-Straight Year; Cowboys for Fourth
Wyoming Faces Several Ranked Foes at Largest Meet of Season
2007-08... Emily had a record breaking year in 2007-08 as she was a letter winner in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. During the indoor season she set the Wyoming record in the 3,000-meter run and ran the second best time in UW history in the 1-Mile run. Her record breaking 3,000m came in Washington at the Husky Classic, she ran a 9:44.54 more than four seconds faster than Amy Wroe in 1995. While at the MWC Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., Emily placed second in the 1-Mile run with her second best time of 4:53.43. For her efforts she was awarded All-Conference honors. During the outdoor season she ran the fifth best time in UW history in the 1,500-meter run with her second place time of 4:29.36 at the First Annual Front Range Invite here in Laramie. Along with her very successful season on the track she kept up her hard work in the classroom. For the second straight year she was honored with the Scholar Athlete award and named to the Academic All-Conference team during the fall and spring.
2006-07... Higgins was a letter winner with the cross country team and a major point scorer for the distance squad. Emily was also honored as a Scholar Athlete and an Academic All-Conference member. Emily had a third place finish at the outdoor Wyoming Invite in the 1,500m with a time of 4:51.02.
High School... Higgins was a three sport athlete, lettering in basketball, cross country and track. She won 14 State titles in Indoor and Outdoor track while also being a four-time State Cross Country Champion. Emily was also awarded the National Merit Scholarships Award for her accomplishments in the classroom.
Personal... Emily was born April 2nd, 1988 in Powell, Wyo., she is the daughter of Dani and Michael Higgins.
