LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's cross country team was honored Monday for its prowess in the classroom, as it was announced as one of the USTFCCCA's 2011 All-Academic teams.
The honorees comprise 205 institutions in 30 conferences. Nine of the top 10 teams at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships earned All-Academic status. Of the 31 teams that participated in the national final, 26 of those earned All-Academic status.
Wyoming achieved a team GPA of 3.17, and was honored along with three other Mountain West teams. This was the sixth-straight season the UW women earned the award.
"We continue to be very pleased and appreciative of the effort these student-athletes put into their studies," Wyoming cross country coach Randy Cole said. "We have a diverse range of academic majors on this squad but they all help each other with their coursework and provide peer support in balancing their academics with their athletics. I am very proud of this achievement for them."
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
