LARAMIE, Wyo. - Following a strong 2012 season, the Wyoming cross country teams were equally impressive in their schoolwork as both the men's and women's squads were named All-Academic teams Monday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA).

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic cross country team, a team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship. With a team GPA of 3.292, the Cowgirls were one of 200 Division I women's teams to receive the honor, while the Cowboys were one of 145 schools to be named by way of achieving a 3.385 team GPA.

The accomplishment marks the seventh straight year the Cowgirls have won the award and third straight season for the Cowboys.

"It's an honor for the program to earn this recognition," said first-year Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill. "I see how hard they go at practice every day, so it's great that they're also taking care of their academics as evidenced by this achievement. Both the men's and women's teams represent the program and the university very well."

The Cowgirls were one of three Mountain West schools to achieve the rank as Colorado State (3.36 GPA) and Nevada (3.57) also attained the honor. On the men's side, CSU was the only other MW school to earn All-Academic status with a 3.30 team GPA.

Junior Garrett Zans led the Cowboys to a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional, while sophomore Holly Page helped the Cowgirls to a 14th-place mark at the meet. The Cowboys placed fifth at the MW Championship in Las Vegas, while the women's team took sixth. Page achieved First Team All-MW honors with her fourth-place finish at the league meet.

Overall, the men's team earned four second-place finishes on the year, while the Cowgirls had one first-, one second -, and two third-place marks in 2012.
