2013 Cross Country Schedule Released
June 18, 2013
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Second-year Wyoming coach Bryan Berryhill announced Tuesday the 2013 cross country schedule.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will run at meets in Colorado, Utah, Minnesota and California that feature an assortment of small-scale and national competition.
The harriers open the season Sept. 6 in Fort Collins, Colo., where they will compete at the Colorado State Invitational. A week later they'll travel to Orem, Utah, for the Utah Valley Invitational hosted by Utah Valley University.
"You progressively want to build up for the end of the year, which is why we'll open with the two small meets," Berryhill said." We'll start at the CSU Invite and each succeeding meet gets progressively more difficult."
The squads then open up to national competition by heading to the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., on Sept. 28 when they'll face some of the country's top teams.
"The Roy Griak meet will be a good opportunity to see where we're at as a program and give our athletes an opportunity to go up against some of the nation's best distance runners," Berryhill said.
Wyoming returns to Colorado a week later for the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo., on Oct. 5 before traveling to Riverside, Calif., on Oct. 19 for the Highlander Invitational.
"The purpose of every meet is to prepare for the Mountain West meet and the NCAA regional," Berryhill said. "We hope our training and conditioning will have improved to give us the best chance of being successful in our difficult conference and region."
Championship season begins Nov. 1 with the MW Championship hosted by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. The NCAA Mountain Regional will occur two weeks later on Nov. 15 in Ogden, Utah, hosted by Weber State.
The NCAA Cross Country Championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
