2008-09: Galand Thaxton is a talented young guard who will add depth to the Cowboy backcourt as a true freshman. He walked on to the Wyoming basketball program.

"Galand Thaxton is a great young man and is the kind of person every program needs," said UW head coach Heath Schroyer. "He is a classy guy, a great teammate and he will make our program better. He is a skilled young player and we are very happy that he has decided to stay home and be a Cowboy."

High School: Thaxton will remain in his hometown of Laramie to continue his basketball career. He enjoyed a great career at Laramie High School where graduated in the spring of 2008. With the Plainsmen, Thaxton was an All-State and All-Conference performer. As a junior in 2007, he helped lead the Plainsmen to the Wyoming State 4A Championship game. Following his senior year, he was selected as a Wyoming High School Coaches Association All-Star. In the second game of a two game series between the Wyoming and South Dakota high school all-star teams, Thaxton scored 22 points to lead Wyoming to a 129-108 win. His high school coach was Jason Mountain.

Personal: Born on Nov. 29, 1989, Thaxton is the son of Rhonda and Galand Sr. and has two younger brothers, Gabriel and Garrison. His father was one of the greatest football players in University of Wyoming history. He is UW's all-time leading tackler and was inducted into the Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999. His dad played in the NFL for both the Atlanta Falcons and San Diego Chargers. Thaxton has not yet decided on a college major.
