Jan. 11, 2010
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
On Tuesday night, the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team will be looking for back-to-back Mountain West Conference wins as they travel to TCU for their first league road game of the season. The game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. (MT) from Daniel-Meyer Coliseum and will be televised live by The Mtn.
Both Wyoming and TCU will enter Tuesday's game with identical records. They are both 1-1 in MWC play and are each 8-8 overall.
Wyoming is coming off of an improbable 17-point comeback win over San Diego State this past Saturday. The Cowboys trailed by as many as 17 with 1:50 remaining in the first half before rallying down the stretch. The Pokes outscored San Diego State 54-38 in the second half and closed the game on a 13-3 run over the final 2:09. UW did not allow an Aztec field goal over the final 2:09 and took their first lead, 85-82, with six seconds remaining on a JayDee Luster three pointer. Over the final 4:12, the Cowboys made six three pointers.
This will mark the 14th meeting in the series between the Cowboys and Horned Frogs. Wyoming leads the overall series 7-6, but is just 1-5 in games played in Fort Worth.
Over the past two games, the Cowboys have been led by Luster and his career week. He opened it with a career high 13 against Colorado State. He then bettered that total by scoring 14 against San Diego State. Of his 14 against the Aztecs, 13 came in the second half and included three three pointers over the final 2:27. He also dished out six assists against SDSU and four against CSU.
In his first week of college basketball, Arthur Bouedo also had a great set of games. After scoring 15 against CSU, Bouedo scored seven in the win over SDSU. His biggest play against SDSU came with 44 seconds remaining when he forced an Aztec turnover and then knocked down a three pointer to give the Pokes their first lead of the game. He is currently averaging 11.0 points a game.
After scoring a season high 30 points against San Diego State, Afam Muojeke continues to lead the Cowboys in scoring. His 17.6 ppg average is the second best in the MWC.
TCU opened MWC play with a 59-50 home win over Air Force before falling at Utah, 65-45, last Saturday. TCU's roster features three different players who are scoring in double figures. Senior forward Zvonko Buljan leads the way with 14.2 ppg and a team best 9.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Ronnie Moss is averaging 14.1 ppg and senior guard Edvinas Ruzgas is averaging 12.4 ppg. Moss leads the team with an MWC best 6.3 assists per game.
Following their trip to TCU, the Cowboys will return to action this coming Saturday to host New Mexico. The game will begin at 1:30 p.m. from the Arena-Auditorium and will be televised by The Mtn. Saturday will also be the first annual "Cowboys Connect with Autism" game. Fans are asked to wear white as part of a "white out", with special shirts being sold and half of the proceeds going to Autism Speaks.
