Cowboys and Falcons Meet for the 94th Time on Wednesday
Jan. 15, 2008
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wednesday night in Laramie, the Wyoming Cowboys and Air Force Falcons will meet for the 94th time on the basketball court when the two teams tip it off at 6:30 p.m., Mountain Time. Wyoming leads the overall series with 68 wins versus only 25 for the Falcons. UW also leads in the Mountain West Conference series between the two teams, winning 12 of the previous 19 MWC meetings.
Wyoming will enter Wednesday's game with a 6-8 overall record and an 0-2 record in MWC play. Air Force is 9-6 on the season and 1-1 in the MWC. The two teams have played one common opponent this season -- the University of Colorado. Wyoming defeated the Buffs in Laramie by a score of 73-64, while Air Force lost to CU at the Academy by a 10-point margin, 50-60.
The Wyoming Cowboys will be looking to break a two-game losing streak this season. Wyoming has experienced only two, two-game losing streaks this season. UW hasn't lost three in a row since last year's Mountain West Conference schedule when they had a four-game losing streak in the second half of the MWC season.
UW will also be looking to break an 0-2 start in the Mountain West Conference in 2008. Wyoming has started 0-2 in MWC play only one other time in the nine seasons of the conference. UW's other 0-2 start came in the 2004-05 season when they lost at New Mexico (75-89) and at home to Utah (49-74) before defeating BYU in Laramie by an 83-71 score.
When the Wyoming Cowboys hosted the Air Force Falcons last year in Laramie, the game came down to the last play of the game before Air Force pulled out a 58-56 road win. Former Cowboy Daaron Brown tied the game at 56-56 when he converted one of two free throws with 21 seconds remaining in the game. Air Force then came down the court and on a back-door inbounds play, Air Force's Jacob Burtschi scored the winning basket as time expired to give Air Force only their 10th victory in Laramie in 46 tries.
Wyoming and Air Force have met at least once in each of the past 51 seasons, including the current season of 2007-08. The Cowboys have won 19 of the last 26 meetings and 45 of the last 56. The Cowboys have been victorius in 17 of the last 19 meetings in the Double A.
Wednesday night's game will be televised live on The Mtn., and will be broadcast on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network. The radio pregame show will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Following Wednesday night's game, the Cowboys will travel to San Diego, Calif., on Saturday for a meeting with San Diego State at 9 p.m., Mountain Time on Jan. 19. Saturday's game will be televised live nationally on CSTV.
