Cowboys Look to Win Third Consecutive Home Game When They Host San Diego State
Feb. 18, 2008
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
When the Wyoming Cowboys host the San Diego State Aztecs on Tuesday night, they will be looking to win their third consecutive home game of the season. That would match a three-game home winning streak earlier this season. Wyoming will enter Tuesday's game with a 10-14 overall record and a 3-8 record in the Mountain West Conference this season. San Diego State is 16-9 overall and 6-5 in the MWC.
Wyoming defeated TCU in its most recent home game on Feb. 13 by a final score of 72-54. Prior to that, the Cowboys defeated Cal State Bakersfield by a score of 78-53, in a non-conference game, on Feb. 6 in the Arena-Auditorium.
The Pokes have won four of their last five home games this season, losing only to league-leading BYU, 63-73, during that five-game stretch.
Sophomore guard Eric Platt enjoyed perhaps his best game of the season last Saturday at Air Force, as he scored 11 points, hitting three of four three-point attempts and adding a two-point field goal to convert four of the six field goals he attempted on the day.
Platt's 11 points marked his first double-figure scoring game in conference play this season. His only higher point total of the season was 12 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Air Force game marked the second consecutive game that Platt showed signs of breaking out of a mid-season shooting slump. In a 72-54 home win over TCU last Wednesday, Platt made two key three-pointers in the Cowboy victory. In the seven games prior to the TCU game, Platt had made only one out of nine three-point attempts over that seven-game span.
He came into his sophomore season as one of Wyoming's best perimeter shooters. He made 43 three-point field goals as a true freshman in the 2006-07 season to rank second only to teammate Brandon Ewing. Platt also shot a team best 39.1 percent from three-point range, making 43 of 110 three-point field goals, his freshman season.
Both the Wyoming Cowboys and San Diego State Aztecs are coming off road losses by identical scores of 66-72 in their most recent outings.
For Wyoming, their 66-72 road loss came at the hands of the Air Force Falcons this past Saturday. In that game, Wyoming led by as many as 12 points in the first half (25-16 with 6:04 remaining) before falling 66-72.
San Diego State started out their road game at Utah last Saturday with an 11-0 lead, before losing by an identical 66-72 score to the Utes.
Tuesday's game between the Cowboys and Aztecs will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on The Mtn. The Cowboy Sports Network radio broadcast will begin with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.
Following Tuesday night's meeting versus San Diego State, the Cowboys will host the UNLV Runnin' Rebels on Saturday, Feb. 23 in a game scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., Mountain Time.
