West Coast All-Star Classic

Trey Washington, an incoming freshman for the University of Wyoming men's basketball team, has been selected to play in the inaugural West Coast All-Star Classic on May 11 at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. A 5'11", 170-pound guard, Washington signed a National Letter of Intent with the Cowboys last November.

"I'm extremely excited about this opportunity," Washington said. "This is a great chance for me to play against some really good players. It's exciting to know that I'll be competing against kids that are joining major programs also."

Washington recently completed his senior season at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. He averaged a team-high 16.9 points to help lead the Wildcats to a 26-8 overall record and 13-2 in district play, as the squad advanced to the quarterfinals of the state 4A tournament. Washington scored in double figures in all but five games, including a season-high 34 points on Feb. 13 against Lincoln High School. He also added 3.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game, while shooting 51 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The 2013 West Coast All-Star Classic will feature 22 of the top high school basketball players in the country. Washington will be joined by players who have signed NLIs with UCLA, Arizona, Ohio State, Michigan State, Cal, Xavier and Missouri, among others. Four other players at the event have signed with Mountain West programs San Diego State, Fresno State and Nevada.

Washington will play for the East team, which will be coached by Patrick Strickland, while the West team will be coached by Ed Haskins and Jason Kerr. Each has extensive resumes as high school coaches in the area. Money raised by the event will benefit two local charities, the Rainier Beach Foundation and the Urban Family Center.
