Nov. 5, 2012
Laramie, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Athletics Department, ROOT SPORTS and Learfield Sports announced Monday that six Cowboy basketball games will be televised during the upcoming 2012-13 season. ROOT SPORTS will air UW's home games against Colorado (Dec. 1), Boise State (Jan. 9), Air Force (Jan. 26), New Mexico (Jan. 30) and Colorado State (March 6); while also picking up Wyoming's road game at New Mexico (March 2).
"We are pleased to continue to develop this relationship with ROOT SPORTS, because we know how important it is to our fans to be able to watch the Cowboys," UW Athletics Director Tom Burman said. "ROOT SPORTS has provided us with first-class coverage during the football season, and we look forward to that continuing during the basketball season and in future years."
The Cowboys are part of an agreement between DIRECTV Sports Networks, the parent company of ROOT SPORTS, and Learfield Sports to broadcast a package of 14 Mountain West men's basketball games this season, featuring Wyoming, Boise State and New Mexico. All three MW schools are represented by Learfield Sports, the collegiate multimedia rights holder. All games will be distributed by ROOT SPORTS Rocky Mountain, which is available on cable and satellite providers in approximately 3 million homes throughout Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and New Mexico. ROOT SPORTS Northwest will also distribute many of the games to its territory, representing approximately 3 million additional homes throughout Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Alaska.
"We're thrilled to bring the Wyoming men's basketball to millions of viewers throughout the massive ROOT SPORTS regional networks territory," said Learfield Sports' Chief Content Officer Joe Ferreira. "This will provide fans of the Cowboys and the Mountain West Conference overall with yet another great way to stay connected throughout the season."
Wyoming's games with Colorado, Boise State, Air Force and Colorado State will tip at 8 p.m. MT, while the New Mexico home game is set for 7 p.m. MT and the road game at 3 p.m. MT. For a complete look at the 2012-13 Cowboy schedule, click on the link above.
"We are excited to deliver six University of Wyoming basketball games to fans throughout the region," said ROOT SPORTS Senior Vice President and General Manager Tim Griggs. "These games are a great addition to our robust schedule of Mountain West programming and we are happy to bring Cowboy basketball to our large regional audience."
"The Mountain West greatly appreciates the commitment ROOT SPORTS has made to the Conference and its member institutions," said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. "This is a great platform to showcase our men's basketball programs throughout a significant portion of the Mountain West footprint - in the same high-quality fashion as is being done with this season's 10-game football package on ROOT SPORTS."
Wyoming's six games on ROOT SPORTS are in addition to four games earlier selected to air on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and CBS Sports Network. A new cable network, TWCSN will televise Cowboy home games against San Diego State (Jan. 19) and UNLV (Feb. 23), while also broadcasting UW's road contest at SDSU (Feb. 19). CBSSN will air Wyoming's game at UNLV (Jan. 24). With three rounds at the MW Championships set to be televised, UW could play a maximum of 13 games on television this season.
