Nov. 10, 2010
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming will open the 106th season of Cowboy basketball this Saturday night in Laramie, Wyo. The Pokes will host Kean University in a game that will tip off at 8 p.m. inside the Arena-Auditorium.
Wyoming in Season Openers:
The Cowboys have won eight of their last 11 season-opening games, dating back to the 1998-99 season. They have won 16 of their last 20 home openers dating back to the 1990-91 season.
A Look Back at last Saturday's Exhibition Win over Peru State:
The Pokes used hot shooting and a big rebounding edge to coast to the victory over their NAIA opponent. Wyoming outshot Peru State 59 percent to 31 percent and won the battle of the boards 47-31. UW also hit 13 three-pointers for the game.
Kean is an NCAA Division III school located in Union, N.J. The school has an enrollment of 15,501. They play in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
In a recent poll of the head coaches in the NJAC, Kean was picked to finish in second place in the conference's south division.
The Cougars return three players with starting experience, including 2009-10 NJAC first-team all-star Jonathan Jones. Jones led the team in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (12.5 rpg), steals (44) and blocks (27) last season. He was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Atlantic Region First Team.
First up for the Pokes will be a road trip to Northern Colorado on Tues., Nov. 16. They will then host North Florida on Thurs., Nov. 18 and Western Illinois on Sat., Nov. 20. Finally, they will travel to Cancun, Mexico for games against Missouri and either Providence or La Salle on Tues. and Wed., Nov. 23-24.
