Wyoming Cowboys to Renew Men's Basketball Series With the Colorado Buffaloes Beginning in 2011-12
Dec. 13, 2010
LARAMIE, Wyo. -The University of Wyoming announced on Monday that it will be adding two regional opponents to its future men's basketball schedules. UW will be renewing its series with the University of Colorado beginning in the 2011-12 season with a four-game series that will see the Cowboys and Buffaloes play once a year for four consecutive seasons. Two of the four games will be played in Laramie, Wyo. The Cowboys also announced a new two-year deal to face the University of Northern Colorado also beginning with the 2011-12 season.
"We feel that both of these regional series are good for our basketball program and are attractive series for our fans," said UW Athletics Director Tom Burman. "We've been talking with CU about renewing our series for some time, and we're glad we were able to get this done. I know it's a series that Cowboy fans enjoy, and from a competitive standpoint it is great to get a team from the Pac 10 Conference to play on our home court twice during the four years of the contract.
"We also are happy to continue to play another regional school in Northern Colorado for the next two seasons. We've split our last two games with UNC over the past two years, and we expect a competitive series going forward."
The first game of the Wyoming-Colorado series will be played in the 2011-12 season in Boulder, Colo. CU will travel to Laramie for a game during the 2012-13 campaign. The two teams will face each other again in Boulder during the 2013-14 season, and the four-game series will conclude in Laramie sometime during the Cowboys 2014-15 season. The exact dates of those games are yet to be determined.
Wyoming and the University of Northern Colorado have also agreed on a new home-and-home series in men's basketball to begin in Laramie next season, with the second game to be played in Greeley, Colo., during the 2012-13 campaign.
The Wyoming-Colorado series dates back to Jan. 13, 1908. The two schools have played a total of 73 times through the years, but they haven't played the past three seasons. The last meeting was a 73-64 Wyoming win on Dec. 8, 2007, in Laramie. Wyoming leads the overall series with 39 wins against 34 losses to CU.
UW and UNC also have a long rivalry, dating back to Feb. 15, 1909. The two schools have played 67 previous times, including games each of the past two seasons. Wyoming leads the overall series with 49 wins to 18 losses.
