For the first time since the 2002-03 season, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will host a double-header of basketball in the Arena-Auditorium, this Saturday, Dec. 20. The Cowboys will take on Sacramento State at 2 p.m. and the Cowgirls will follow by hosting St. Louis at 6 p.m.

The Cowboys are off to their first 8-1 start since the 1990-91 season. During this season-opening stretch, they have been dominant at home, posting a perfect 6-0 record in the Arena-Auditorium.

Entering Saturday's game, the Cowboy roster not only features the top scorer in the Mountain West Conference, it also features the league's top rebounder, top assist man and top three-point shooter. Redshirt freshman Afam Muojeke currently leads the MWC in scoring with 18.4 points per game. Senior Tyson Johnson is leading the league in rebounding with 9.8 per game. Senior Brandon Ewing currently leads the MWC in assists with 5.89 per game and senior Sean Ogirri leads the MWC in three-point field goals per game with 3.44.

In their last game, a 100-73 win over Western State, the Cowboys were paced by Ogirri who scored a career high 26 points. Ogirri knocked down seven three-pointers in the game, which is tied for the second most in a single game in Wyoming and Arena-Auditorium history. Amazingly, 23 of Ogirri's points came in the second half.

Saturday's meeting will be the third between Sacramento State and Wyoming. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 2-0, posting home wins in both 1967 and 1978.

Sacramento State is currently 1-8 and have not played a game since Dec. 11. They are coached by Brian Katz, who is in his first season with the Hornets. Katz coached in the junior college ranks over the past 19 seasons, compiling a career record of 435-185 (.702).

Saturday's game with Sacramento State will be the last home game until Jan. 14, 2009 for the Cowboys. They will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. next Tuesday, Dec. 23 to take on the UCLA Bruins in Pauley Pavilion. That game will be UW's final one before the Christmas holiday.
