Cowboy Basketball Closes Out Five-Game Homestand on Tuesday Night by Hosting Kennesaw State

    On Tuesday night, the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team will close out a five-game homestand by hosting Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. The Pokes have posted a 3-1 record during their current five-game homestand.

    A Look at the Matchup with Kennesaw State:
    The Cowboys saw a three-game winning streak come to an end last Wednesday night by falling to Green Bay 68-62. With the loss, the Pokes fell to 6-7 overall. In the Arena-Auditorium this season, the Pokes have posted a record of 6-2 and are outscoring their opponents by an average of 16.75 points a game at home.

    Sophomore Desmar Jackson is the Cowboys' top scorer and is currently ranked eighth in the Mountain West Conference in scoring with 15.0 points a game. He has scored in double figures in 10 straight games and has scored 20 or more points in two straight games. He also ranks No. 2 in the MWC in steals with 2.33 per game.

    Senior Djibril Thiam has scored 10 or more points in eight straight games and has posted two double-doubles this season. He currently ranks No. 6 in the MWC in rebounding with 5.8 per game and is tied for No. 13 in scoring with 12.3 points a game.

    Kennesaw State will enter Tuesday's game with an overall record of 2-9 and an 0-2 mark in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls got off to a great start and posted back-to-back wins over Georgia Southwestern and Georgia Tech. However, they have lost nine straight games since that start.

    The Owls are led by two guards who are putting up big offensive numbers. Markeith Cummings leads the way and is averaging 16.5 points a game. His partner in the back court is Spencer Dixon, who is averaging 16.0 points a game.

    About the Series with Kennesaw State:
    This will mark the first-ever meeting between Wyoming and Kennesaw State on the basketball floor.

    Home for the Holidays:
    The Wyoming Cowboys have been home for Christmas this season and will close out a five-game homestand against Kennesaw State. This is the team's longest stretch of home games of the season.

    The Cowboys are 3-1 during the homestand with wins over Denver (61-48), Western State (80-37) and Centenary (76-49). Their only loss came to Green Bay (62-68) on Dec. 22. They will take to the road on New Year's Eve for a game at Houston Baptist.

    Cowboys Leading the MWC in Free-Throw Percentage:
    The Wyoming Cowboys have done a great job of converting their free throws this season and currently lead the MWC in free-throw percentage with a 71.3. They have made 228 of 320 free throws this season.

    They have shot above 75 percent from the charity stripe in six games this season--Kean (83.3 percent), Providence (88.2 percent), Indiana State (75.0 percent), UC Irvine (81.0 percent), Denver (80.0 percent) and Green Bay (77.1 percent).
