UW This Season: Has been one of the hard-luck stories of the Cowboy football team over his career. Seems to sustain one injury after another. Once again this season is coming back from knee problems, which prevented him from participating in spring drills. But he is an individual whom the coaching staff knows all about and appreciates. One of the most valuable football players on the team because he can do so many things. Not only is he a tough, hard-nosed running back, but he also can catch the ball from the wide receiver position if called upon. He is an outstanding special teams performer. The "protector" for punts, his great work ethic always has him down field on the punt and kickoff coverage teams. Came into the program as a running back, but was moved to the "A" receiver position, and is now back at his old familiar spot. A tough, competitive football player and a class individual. The longer he is in the program, the more valuable he becomes to the Cowboys. 2000: Sat out most of last season due to injury problems especially in the knee area. 1999: Played in all 11 games for the Cowboys as a special teams player. Finished the year with five total tackles including three unassisted stops and two assists. Honored as an MWC Academic All-Conference selection with a 3.47 grade-point average in civil engineering. 1998: Saw plenty of duty on special teams as a redshirt freshman. Made four unassisted tackles and added an assist as a specialist. Achieved Academic All-Conference and Conference Scholar-Athlete honors. 1997: Redshirted. High School: The state of Wyoming's Back of the Year in 1996 as selected by Wyoming high school coaches. Earned All-State honors and was named to the Casper Star Tribune Super 25 Team for Wyoming. A two-year starter at running back and defensive end, Frude rushed for 1,166 yards as a senior, averaging seven yards per rush. He led his Laramie High team to two conference titles, a state semifinal appearance and a state championship appearance. Coached by John Deti Jr. and also recruited by the Air Force Academy where he received an appointment. Was a 4.0 student throughout his high school career. A member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among High School Students. Also a Boys' State delegate. Personal: Born November 21, 1978, in Sheridan, Wyoming. One of two sons of Allen Frude, a former UW football player and All-America wrestler from 1961 through 1963. His uncle, Jerry, also was an outstanding athlete at UW, earning honors in wrestling. Civil engineering major.
