UW This Season: Zach Ewan will be a stalwart of special teams entering the fall of 2012, and will provide steady experience to the kicking game for the Pokes as the returning starter at long snapper for punts, field goals and extra points.

2011: Ewan was as solid as could be in his freshman season as the full-time long snapper. His snaps didn't lead to any negative plays for the Cowboys, and he played in all 13 games.

High School: Ewan was selected to The Arizona Republic's Class 5A First Team All-State defensive team as a long snapper his senior season at North Canyon High School in Phoenix. Ewan was also selected to play in the 2011 Under Armour All-America Football game on Jan. 5 in St. Petersburg, Fla., which was televised live on ESPN. In addition to receiving All-State honors, he was an All-Region selection as a senior as a long snapper and defensive lineman. He recorded 89 tackles, 8.5 sacks and one blocked kick as a senior. He had 46 long snaps on special teams with no errors. His North Canyon team posted a 7-4 record and advanced to the first round of the state playoffs. As a junior, he was named Second Team All-State Class 5A as a long snapper. He was credited with 78 total tackles, 6.0 sacks and had 69 long snaps with no errors. His sophomore season, he had 80 tackles, 10.0 sacks and made 79 long snaps on special teams with no errors, while earning Second Team All-Region as a defensive lineman. His team posted an 8-3 record his sophomore season and advanced to the first round of the state playoffs. For his career, he made 33 consecutive starts, and set his school's record for career sacks with 24.5. His high school coach was Brian Cole.

Personal: Born Nov. 7, 1991, he is the son of Ananda Smith and Dave Ewan and has one younger sister, Jordan. His dad played football at New Mexico Highlands. Ewan was also recruited by San Jose State, TCU and UCLA. He has not decided on a major at UW.
