UW This Season: Kirkegaard adds valuable depth to the Cowboy quarterbacking group. He is a tough, smart player and can step in if necessary.

2012: Kirkegaard got the first start of his Cowboy career versus Cal Poly, finishing 15-of-23 for 123 yards and one interception. He also appeared in games versus Toledo and Nevada. He finished his season going 16-for-26 for 123 yards. He added 20 yards on the ground through the season. He earned his first letter.

2011: Kirkegaard joined the Cowboy football program in the summer of 2011. He completed 5-of-10 passes on the season for 37 yards. He made his first appearance of the season versus Texas State. Against UNLV, he had one rushing attempt for 12 yards. All of his passing statistics were in relief of starter Brett Smith in the TCU game. Kirkegaard came in after Smith was injured in the fourth quarter and performed admirably.

Junior College: Kirkegaard played one year of junior college football at Phoenix Community College in Phoenix in 2010. As a freshman starter, he threw for 1,695 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also scored two rushing TDs. He played for head coach Land Jacobsen at Phoenix CC.

High School: Kirkegaard played his high school football at Arcadia High School in Phoenix. He threw for 5,083 yards, completed 60 percent of his passes and threw 47 touchdown passes, while rushing for 13 TDs. He was a First Team All-State, All-Region and All-City selection in 2009, and won the Arizona National Football Foundation Danny White Award as the top quarterback in the state in 2009. Kirkegaard was a three-year starter and two-year captain in football at Arcadia High. He played for head coach Jim Ellison.

Personal: Born July 14, 1991, he is the son of Lori and Tom Kirkegaard. He has one older sibling, Jordan. He is studying communications.
