UW This Season: Luke Anderson will compete for significant playing time in the defensive backfield for the Pokes, and enters the fall as the No. 2 nickel back.

2011: Anderson made an immediate impact on the Cowboy defense, and was versatile enough to start at a hybrid safety/outside linebacker position in 12 of 13 games. Anderson's best game came against TCU, in which he tallied 11 tackles, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. He showed up in a big way against Boise State, returning an interception 29 yards for a touchdown to go with nine tackles. He ranked No. 5 on the team in total tackles with 75. Anderson's athletic ability also translated into three kick returns for 57 yards and he was one of five Cowboys to tally at least one interception during the season. He finished third in the Mountain West and 78th in the NCAA, averaging 0.85 passes defensed per game and ninth in the MW with 0.15 picks per game. He was 18th in the conference with 5.8 stops per game.

Junior College: Originally from Southlake, Texas, Anderson played at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. His Blinn College team ended the 2010 season ranked No. 10 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll. Blinn entered the 2010 C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl ranked No. 16 in the nation, but went on to upset then No. 4 ranked Arizona Western College by a score of 31-27. Anderson was named Honorable Mention All-Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) as a sophomore. At the conclusion of the regular season, Anderson ranked among the league leaders in three defensive categories. He ranked No. 14 in tackles in the SWJCFC with 56, tied for No. 4 in passes defended with seven and tied for No. 8 in interceptions with two. Blinn Community College finished the 2010 season in second place in the SWJCFC behind eventual National Champion Navarro College. Blinn posted an 8-3 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark. He played for head coach Brad Franchione at Blinn Community College.

High School: Anderson played his high school football at Carroll High School where in three seasons his teams posted a combined record of 44-2 and won two 5A State Championships. His sophomore and junior seasons, Carroll went 16-0 each year and won back-to-back state titles. His senior season, he earned all-district honors, was named to the Dallas-Fort Worth Super Team and helped lead Carroll to a 12-2 record and the third round of the state playoffs. He had 116 tackles his senior season with three interceptions, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. As a junior, Anderson was credited with 110 tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Personal: The son of Michelle and James Anderson, he has two younger brothers, Jake and Bo. He was born March 1, 1990. He was also recruited by Colorado State and Texas Tech. He is majoring in communications at UW.
