The Wyoming special teams sealed a big win Saturday, as Gabe Knapton and Josh Biezuns blocked the potential game-tying PAT with less than 3 seconds remaining, and the defense forced six turnovers in Wyoming's 28-27 win over Bowling Green.

Falcon QB Matt Schilz threw a TD pass to Ray Hutson with 3 seconds remaining, but Knapton and Biezuns blocked the PAT to prevent the tie and an overtime session.

UW quarterback Brett Smith went 25-for-38 for 267 yards and one touchdown for the Cowboys, now 3-0 overall for the first time since 1996, and Alvester Alexander rushed for 42 yards and one TD. Mazi Ogbonna caught six balls for 79 yards to lead the Pokes in receiving, and Dominic Rufran scored the lone passing touchdown of the day for Wyoming.

UW's defense showed up, picking off four passes and snagging two fumble recoveries. Devyn Harris led the way with 11 tackles and one pass breakup, while Biezuns had two sacks for 15 yards and one forced fumble. Blair Burns tallied the first two interceptions of his Cowboy career on the day.

Bowling Green (2-1 overall) struck first with a 40-yard TD pass from QB Matt Schilz to Alex Bayer, making the score 7-0 Falcons at the 12:27 mark of the first quarter. The Falcons drove down to the Wyoming goal line on their third drive of the game but a fumble by Schilz on a handoff led to a Luke Ruff recovery that negated the scoring threat.

Alexander then scored on a 17-yard cutback run to tie the game up in the second quarter, but shortly thereafter Bowling Green scored on a 13-yard TD pass from Schilz to Kamar Jorden at the 5:03 mark of the second quarter to put the Falcons up 14-7.

At the 10:20 mark, Wyoming tied it up again on a 6-yard TD run from Ghaali Muhammad to make it 14-14. Marqueston Huff then had a fumble recovery on the Bowling Green 8 and returned it for a touchdown, making it 21-14.

Wyoming blocked a field-goal attempt from 44 yards out, as Ben Durbin put his hand up to knock it down. Later, after a Wyoming three-and-out, Biezuns forced Bowling Green's fifth turnover of the day by forcing a Schilz fumble and recovering it. That led to a 10-yard TD pass from Smith to freshman receiver Dominic Rufran, making it 28-14 with 13:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Burns then added another highlight-reel interception on the Wyoming 47, picking off a Schilz pass in front of the receiver. Later on in the quarter, the defense added a fourth-down stop from the Wyoming 8 to take over on downs.

The Falcons, however, weren't done, and scored on a 32-yard TD pass from Schilz to Jorden to make it 28-21 Wyoming with 4:16 remaining. Then, with 1:18 left in the game, Bowling Green drove from their 11-yard line to score the touchdown, but the PAT was blocked.
