LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Football program invites Wyoming fans to attend the second annual "Cowboy Combine" on Monday, Feb. 28 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Indoor Practice Facility on the University of Wyoming campus.

Throughout the Cowboys' winter-conditioning program, all current UW football players are tested in the same types of drills utilized in the NFL's Scouting Combine that is held prior to the NFL Draft. Next Monday, fans can watch the current Pokes be tested in five different areas: the vertical jump, standing long jump, three-cone test, 20-yard shuttle and 40-yard dash.

In addition to coming to watch the players be tested, head coach Dave Christensen asks all fans who attend to bring a canned food item for admission to the testing. The canned foods will be donated to the Interfaith-Good Samaritan Food Pantry in Laramie. Fans need to park in the gravel parking lot east of War Memorial Stadium.

There will be a fenced area inside the Indoor Practice Facility for fans to watch the testing. Cowboy players will come in for their testing throughout the two and one half hour period based on their class schedules. As players set new personal bests in the five tests, fans will hear coaches shouting out the names of those individual players who have broken their previous records.

The overriding atmosphere during the testing sessions is one of competition.

"We test our players on a weekly basis during winter conditioning," said Christensen. "Next Monday's test will be the final one prior to us beginning Spring Practice next Saturday (March 5). We want to give our fans an opportunity to see how our players have progressed physically and see them compete against one another.

"Our overall player-development program includes two phases -- our lifting phase and our `Winning Edge' phase that encompasses our conditioning program. Our `Winning Edge' program focuses on running, agility and conditioning, as well as developing mental and physical toughness.

"We also felt this would be a great opportunity for all of us to give something back to the community by conducting a food drive at the same time. We look forward to seeing a lot of our fans come out next Monday."

Donation bins will be located inside the Indoor Practice Facility for fans to donate their canned food items.
