LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The second year of the Dave Christensen era at the University of Wyoming will get under way on Thursday, Aug. 5 when the Wyoming Cowboy Football team will open fall drills with a 3:45 p.m. practice. Thursday's practice session is scheduled for the grass field south of War Memorial Fieldhouse. All fall practices are open to the public.
"We have been pointing toward the beginning of fall camp this entire off season," said Dave Christensen, University of Wyoming head football coach. "It will be good to be out at practice again.
"I think we have made a lot of progress from year one to year two. I know that the excitement level of our football team is way up there. We're all looking forward to getting back together as a team, and to taking another step forward in our program's development."
The Cowboys are scheduled to report back on Wednesday, Aug. 4. Among the items on their schedule the first day are player physicals, meetings on NCAA rules, a meeting for first-year players and a team dinner.
Thursday's first practice will be in helmets only but no pads to conform with NCAA rules requiring an acclimation period prior to teams progressing into full-padded practices. The first full-padded practice is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 9.
The first week of 2010 fall drills will feature one practice per day. Friday's and Saturday's practices will be at 8:45 a.m. Media Day will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7 from noon to 3:30 p.m.
A total of 34 lettermen, including 16 starters return from last season's New Mexico Bowl Championship team. There are 29 other squad men returning and 23 new recruits expected to begin practice on Thursday.
All 2010 fall practices for the Cowboys are scheduled for the practice field south of War Memorial Fieldhouse. Wyoming's four scheduled scrimmages of the fall will be in War Memorial Stadium. The planned dates for those scrimmages are: Friday, Aug. 13; Tuesday, Aug. 17; Saturday, Aug. 21 and Wednesday, Aug. 25. On inclement days, the Cowboys may practice in the Indoor Practice Facility. The detailed schedule for 2010 fall drills follows.
A "Fan Appreciation Day" will be held Saturday, Aug. 7 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in War Memorial Stadium following media day events. The "Fan Appreciation Day" will give Cowboy fans a chance to come out and meet the players and coaches and get autographs during that hour.
During "Fan Appreciation Day" the UW Athletics Ticket Office will have a tent set up in the northwest corner of War Memorial Stadium.
