Cowboys Return To Prominence

In Year Two of the Joe Glenn era, 2004, the Cowboys delivered a very special performance that remains one of the most memorable seasons to date.

UW began the season with a 53-7 victory over Appalachian State, the highest point total since 1997. After a road loss to Texas A&M, the Pokes reeled off three-straight wins over Ole Miss, Louisiana-Monroe and San Diego State to sit at 4-1. Two close losses in consecutive weeks to BYU and Colorado State followed, but UW again rebounded with two wins over Air Force and UNLV.

The victory over the Rebels was particularly important - not only was it a 53-45 triple overtime thriller, but it also gave the Cowboys their sixth win of the season, thus making them bowl-eligible. The Pokes earned an invitation to the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 23 versus the Bruins of UCLA.

Keyed by quarterback Corey Bramlet (20-of-34 for 307 yards and two touchdowns) and wide receiver Jovon Bouknight (five catches for 107 yards, one TD pass), the underdog Cowboys overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to win 24-21. UW had TD passes from Bouknight to reserve QB J.J. Raterink on a trick play and later, from Bramlet to tight end John Wadkowski from 12 yards out with just 57 seconds left to record the win. Bramlet was named the game's MVP after driving UW 72 yards for the game-winning score.

It was the biggest upset of the bowl season and marked the first bowl win for the Cowboys since 1966, a 28-20 win over Florida State in the Sun Bowl.

About the #120CowboyTough Countdown

The 2013 season will mark the 120th anniversary of Wyoming Cowboy Football. To commemorate that anniversary, we will be counting down some of the great memories and moments from Wyoming football history over the next eight weeks leading up to the Cowboys' season opener at Nebraska on Aug. 31.

The 2013 "Countdown to Kickoff" will take Wyoming fans through Cowboy Football history chronologically. The first week will highlight some of the memorable moments from the period from the first season in 1893 through the 1940s. Then each successive week, the countdown will recall great moments from the 1950s, `60s, 70s, 80, 90s, 2000s and the current decade.

Our countdown will only touch on some of the greatest moments, but we encourage you, the Wyoming fans, to share your favorite memories through the official University of Wyoming Athletics Twitter (@wyoathletics) and Facebook pages (Wyoming Cowboys). Fans are encouraged to use #120CowboyTough when sharing their memories.

Enjoy the countdown, and we look forward to seeing you in War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the home opener versus the Idaho Vandals.
