Lakewood, Colo., product John Salley lettered four years for the Cowboys at free safety from 1979 to 1982. His senior season of 1982, he led the Cowboys in tackles and recorded the second-most single season tackles in UW history with 143. He concluded his career No. 3 on UW's career tackle list with 379 total tackles. The Cowboys best season during Salley's time came in 1981 when they went 8-3 overall while defeating both BYU and CSU. He earned one All-Western Athletic Conference honor following his sophomore season of 1980. Following his UW career, Salley was selected in the 11th round of the 1983 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
