Cowboys Set For 2012 Mountain West Golf Championship

The event will begin Friday, May 4 in Tucson, Ariz.

Fall 2011 (Senior): Ruff played in all five tournaments for the Cowboys recording three top-30 finishes. He started the season with a top-25 finish at the Battle in the Tetons. He fired rounds of 74 (+2), 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) to finish the tournament with a three-round total of 225 (+9), which finished him in a tie for 24th place. At the Colorado Invitational, Ruff recorded another top-25 finish in a challenging field. He recorded rounds of 74 (+2), 73 (+1) and a 70 (-2), which was his first under-par round of the season. He finished the tournament with a final tally of 217 (+1) placing him in 22nd place. Ruff recorded his third top-30 finish of the fall at the Air Force Invitational finishing with a score of 218 (+2), which included a season-best round of 69 (-3). Ruff finished the AFA Invite in a tie for 29th place. He shot two under-par rounds and carried a stroke average of 75.66.

2010-11 (Junior): Prior to the 2010-11 season, Ruff was awarded an extra year of eligibility due to medical reasons. Ruff played in eight tournaments for the Cowboys in the 2010-11 season, recording his best finish at the first tournament of the season. At the weather-shortened Nebraska Invitational Ruff shot a two round total of 152 (+8), which was good enough to tie him for 40th place. Ruff carried the fifth best stroke average for the Cowboys during the season, averaging 76.82 per round. He recorded two rounds of par or better during the spring of 2011. Ruff earned his third consecutive Academic All-Mountain West and MW Scholar-Athlete honors.

2009-10 (Redshirt Sophomore): After missing two seasons due to some health issues as well as a redshirt year, the Cowboy golf program was thrilled to welcome Casey Ruff back into the lineup during the 2009-10 season. He played in nine of 11 of the Cowboys' tournaments during the season. He showed steady improvement during the season. At the 2010 Mountain West Conference Championship he placed in a tie for 41st with a score of 232 (+19). Ruff shot his season best round of 71 (+1) during the final tournament of the fall, the Long Beach Del Walker Invite. That 71 helped the Cowboys climb five places during the final day of the event. During the season, Ruff carried a stroke average of 77.37. For the second time in his Cowboy career Ruff was named MW Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-MW.

2008-09 (Redshirt Sophomore): Ruff did not play in any tournaments for the Cowboys.

2007-08 (Sophomore): Ruff used his redshirt year after gaining experience as a true freshman.

2006-07 (Freshman): Ruff made the huge jump from Wyoming high school golf to NCAA Division I competition and competed in 11 of 13 events as a true freshman. He experienced some up and down play, but showed that he can be successful at the college level. Ruff's low scorecard of the season was an even-par round of 72 at the Purple & Red Invitational, where he also had his best finish, 50th. His best 54-hole total was 221 (+8) at the District VII Fall Preview. Casey also played two rounds at the Division I Independent Championship in Windsor, Colo. Ruff did a good job in the classroom and earned Academic All-MW and MW Scholar-Athlete honors.

High School: Casey was the 2005 Wyoming 3A state golf champion from Buffalo High School. In addition to his state title as a senior, Ruff was state runner-up as a junior and a three-time All-Conference and All-State selection. He led his high school team to the state title as a senior and the runner-up position his junior year. Casey finished second at the Wyoming State Junior Championship in 2006. A multi-sport athlete, Ruff lettered four years in golf, three years in basketball and started on the Wyoming 3A state basketball championship team his senior year. An excellent student who ranked number one in his class, he earned multiple academic honors.

Personal: Ruff is the youngest of three children of Dave and Carol Ruff. His brother's name is Jason and his sister's name is Jennifer. His father Dave played golf at Hiram Scott College and his brother Jason wrestled at University of Mary. Casey was born Jan. 16, 1988 in Torrington, Wyo. He is majoring in accounting at UW.
