Cowboys Conclude Action at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

The Wyoming Cowboy golf team played the third round of the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, in Palm Desert, Calif., and finished in 19th place of the 23-team field after shooting a final round of 293 (+5). The Pokes finished with a three-round score of 889 (+25).
Sophomore Kamrin Allen led the Cowboy scoring and was the top finisher tying for 42nd place of the 127-man field. Allen completed the tournament with a final round 70 (-2) for a 54-hole total of 217 (+1). Allen's final round was the best for the Cowboys on Sunday as well as his best of the tournament.
"It was a pretty tall order for us as the first tournament of the spring," Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. "But today we had our best round of the tournament and our guys played very well."
Behind Allen, was senior Eddie Stewart who shot a final round 71 (-1) to finish in a tie for 62nd place with a score of 221 (+5). Senior Brent Baylon carded a final round 79 (+7) to finish tied for 72nd place with a score of 223 (+7), as junior Cameron Lindell shot his best round of the tournament on Sunday with a 73 (+1) to finish with 229 (+13).
Senior Eric Parish shot a third-round score of 79 (+7) to finish with 237 (+21). As an individual in the tournament, freshman Ryan Wallen carded his best round of play on Sunday with a 75 (+3) and finished with 230 (+14), while redshirt junior P.J. Thomas hit a 77 (+5) to complete the tournament one shot behind Wallen with 231 (+15).
"We weren't far off from the bulk of the field and we made progress each day. I think we would have liked to have finished better but I liked what I saw," Jensen said. "Our guys worked hard all week and we know we have some things to work on. We'll have to be ready to play in Tucson because our next tournament is another tough one."
Taking the individual medalist award for the second consecutive year was TCU's Julien Brun who shot a 203 (-13). Brun recorded a 206 (-10) to win the tournament last year. In second place was Oregon's Sulman Raza with a score of 208 (-8). Ryan Porch of Idaho and Ryann Ree of Oregon tied for third place with a three-round total of 209 (-7).
Oregon won the team championship with a final tally of 837 (-27). Colorado finished three strokes behind the Ducks in second with a score of 840 (-24). Finishing third and nine strokes behind Colorado was Idaho with a team score of 849 (-15).
The Cowboys return to action at the University of Arizona National Invitational Tournament on March 14-16 in Tucson, Ariz.
