The Wyoming Cowboy Golf team finished up a long road trip Tuesday with a 15th place finish at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.

The 16 team event was Wyoming's third tournament in ten days.

The Cowboys tied the third best team score of the day with 295 (+7) at Alvamar Country Club to finish the 54-hole event at 915 (+51).

The team score of seven-over par tied the season low for Wyoming.

"I'm very proud of the way this team played hard today and bounced back after yesterday's afternoon round," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "They showed that they are resilient and produced one of the better team rounds in the field today.

"We just dug too big of a hole with an awful round yesterday to make up any ground today. That said we can leave here feeling good about two of the three rounds we played."

Wyoming shot scores of 300 (+12) and 320 (+32) on Monday.

The tournament host Kansas Jayhawks, who led by five shots after day one, struggled in the final round with a score of 304 (+16) to finish in a tie for second.

The University of Houston shot a final round 292 (+4) to win the tournament by five shots at 888 (+24) over the Jayhawks and Oral Roberts University.

Houston's Jordan Irwin won the individual competition with a total of 215 (-1).

The low round of the day for the Cowboys came from redshirt freshman Aaron Johnson who shot a one-under par 71, his best round for Wyoming.

For the third straight event UW was led by true freshman Gabe Maier, who shot a three round total of 225 (+9) to finish in a tie for 22nd place, giving him his second straight top-25 finish. Maier carded 73 (+1) on Tuesday.

Next up for the Cowboys is a trip to Layton, Utah, where they will compete in the Purple and Red Invite, Sept. 24-25, hosted by the University of Utah and Weber State University.
