Cowboy Golfers Return to the Links at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate

Sept. 21, 2001

Returning to competition for the first time in 10 days, the University of Wyoming men's golf team shot a two-round total of 608 on Friday and finished in a tie for 16th place at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate.

Cowboy senior Mike Urbatchka led all Wyoming golfers after shooting a 75 and 74 for a two round total of 149. Urbatchka sits in a tie for 36th place heading into the final round of competition on Saturday.

"Our freshman guys really got introduced to a major college tournament today and I feel they did a great job," said Wyoming head golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "As soon as they get their legs under them and get a little more comfortable playing at this level we will be a good team again. It seems like this team needs to play just one good round to get them on track."

Host school New Mexico is leading the team standings with a total of 572. Southeastern Louisiana University's Andy Smith is leading the individual standings with a score of 139.

The tournament is being played at the University of New Mexico Championships Course in Albuquerque, N.M. The course measures 7,253 yards and play to a par of 72.

The Pokes will conclude the tournament on Saturday with one final round of play.
