The University of Wyoming men's golf team will open the 2013 Mountain West Championship at OMNI Tucson National Golf Club on Friday in Tucson, Ariz. The Pokes will be one of nine teams competing for a conference championship in the 54-hole event which will conclude on Sunday.

"I feel a tremendous amount of hope for this weekend," Wyoming Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "The guys have improved every event so far this spring. We had three pretty good rounds last weekend and I feel like we are getting there. There are still things we need to work on before we tee off on Friday, but I like the direction we are headed. If we go out and perform like I know we are capable of we are going to have a very competitive conference championship."

The Cowboys:
Leading the Cowboys is senior Clinton Boutelle who returns after a top-15 finish at the 2012 MW Championships after shooting a three-over 216. Boutelle leads the Pokes in scoring average carrying a 74 average over 14 rounds this spring season. He missed the fall season due to injury, but has returned with four rounds of par or better and one top-25 finish last weekend at the PING Cougar Classic. Freshman Kamrin Allen carries the second-best stroke average on the team at 74.73 and will be playing in his first conference championship. Allen has recorded four top-25 finishes this season and has carded four rounds of par or better. Junior Brent Baylon is coming off his highest career finish tying for 14th at the PING Cougar Classic. At that event he also fired a career-best round of 69 (-3) and his best 54-hole score of 216 (E). Baylon carries a stroke average of 75 and has played in every tournament for the Cowboys this season. Fellow junior Eric Parish is also coming off his best finish of the spring season after tying for 16th at the Cougar Classic. Parish has played in 29 rounds this season carrying a 75.96 stroke average and recording two top-20 finishes. Junior Eddie Stewart has also played in every tournament for UW this season carrying a 75.1 stroke average. Stewart recorded the Pokes best finish of the season winning the 2012 Battle In The Tetons with the third-best 54-hole total in school history of 208 (-8).
