Cowboy Wrestling Goes 1-1 in Dual Action on Friday

CORVALLIS, Ore. -
The University of Wyoming Wrestling team downed Oregon 30-12 in a dual on Friday afternoon in Eugene, Oregon, but were defeated by Oregon State on Friday night in Corvallis, Oregon.
Against Oregon the Cowboys had two falls and six decisions in running away with the victory. At 133 pounds Cowboy senior Tyson Shatto won a triple overtime match with Justin Pearch. Shatto was able to score an escape earning the deciding point in a 4-3 decision. Other Cowboys earning decisions were senior Malcolm Havens, sophomore Jason Still, and redshirt freshman Dan Barrone.
At 157 pounds sophomore Danny Clum made quick work of Cyle Hartzell and pinned him early in the first pierod. Sophomore Carter Downing earned a technical fall as he beat Jeremy Mclaughlin 15-0 at 149 pounds.
The Cowboys left Eugene and traveled to Corvallis, Oregon for a dual against Oregon State on Friday night. The Cowboys gave it all they had but came up short in a 30-10 loss.
Tyson Shatto, Carter Downing, and Danny Clum were the three victories for the Cowboys, and these three all finished Friday with perfect 2-0 records. Clum had an impressive win as he beat the number 17th ranked wrestler in the nation Tony Hook 8-5. At 133 pounds Shatto earned a major decision over Jake Gonzalez 13-4 and at 149 Carter Downing beat Orlando Perez 13-7. See complete results for both duals below.
With Friday's split the Cowboys record moves to 2-4 overall. Next up for the Cowboy grapplers is on Saturday January, 21 in Laramie as they host Utah Valley State, Western Wyoming, and Northwest Wyoming in the Cowboy Duals.
