Wyoming Wrestling Team Fights Through Las Vegas Invitational

Four University of Wyoming wrestlers placed in the top 10 in their respective weight classes Saturday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The Minnesota Gophers walked away with the tournament team title with 131 points.
Junior Levi Prevost, currently ranked 18th in the nation at 165 pounds, was the top UW finisher placing 4th. The Sidney, Mont. native went 5-2 in the tournament recording one pin and a technical fall. Both of Prevost's loses were to Tyron Woodley of Missouri.
Junior Kevin Kessner, from Rock Springs, Wyo., finished 6th in the 197 pound weight class with a 6-3 record. Kessner battled his way through a tough bracket by recording two pins, two technical falls and two major decisions.
Senior Brad Steele, from St. James, Minn., placed 7th in the heavyweight division. Steele went 5-2 in the tournament winning two of his matches by pin. In his final match of the tournament Steele defeated Jacob Lininger of Minnesota in overtime 5-3 to claim 7th place.
In the 141 pound weight class junior Blake Gunter, a native of Green River, Wyo., went 5-3 in the tournament, placing 8th. Gunter picked up impressive decisions over Chris Bennet of Air Force 6-5 and Cris Brines of UC-Davis, 6-2.
The Cowboys return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14, when they host Fresno State. The dual will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the MultiPurpose Gymnasium on the campus of the University of Wyoming.
