World Cup Action Awaits UW's Foster

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming wrestling volunteer assistant coach Clayton Foster could see the mat this weekend in an international dual-style event for Team USA. Foster will be part of the Team USA lineup at 86 kilograms (189 pounds).

USA Wrestling, Beat the Streets LA and California USA Wrestling will host the 2014 Senior Men's Freestyle World Cup on Saturday and Sunday at the FORUM in Inglewood, Calif. The World Cup offers wrestling fans a chance to see two days of dual competition. The top 10 teams from the 2013 Senior World Championships earned the right to compete. This event will be contested over four sessions, featuring Armenia, Georgia, India, Iran, Japan, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the U.S.

Teams are drawn into two pools of five teams at the completion of weigh-ins Friday. Each team will compete four times in a dual format, wrestling each country in the pool in which it was drawn. At the completion of pool competition, each team then wrestles its equal placer from the other pool to determine final placing.

In his most recent competition, Foster went 3-2 at 86 kilograms (189 pounds) in the Yasar Dogu International freestyle tournament Feb. 16 in Istanbul, Turkey. Wrestling in association with the Wyoming Wrestling Regional Training Center and GRIT Athletics, he was victorious in his first three bouts, including a pin and a 5-0 shutout. But he dropped his next two contests to finish fifth.
