March 16, 2014
LOS ANGELES - University of Wyoming volunteer assistant wrestling coach Clayton Foster had an impressive weekend to become a World Cup gold medalist for Team USA. He posted four dual wins to his resume over the weekend, including victories over two high-profile international opponents.
In one of his most notable performances, Foster took out Iran's Ehsan Lashgari on Saturday in a freestyle dual-meet bout, 7-5, with a late takedown. Lashgari was a bronze medalist in both the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2013 World Championships. On Sunday, Foster upended Ukraine's Ibragim Aldatov, 7-2. Aldatov is a two-time World Champion.
Wrestling for Team USA, Foster defeated Lashgari in a tightly contested match. The duo was tied at 2-all after the first period, but Foster found his offense in the second to lead 5-2. With 15 seconds left, Lashgari secured a takedown to tie things up at 5-5. But Foster went on the attack again to score a takedown with just 10 seconds remaining. His victory tied the dual up at 3-3 in team score, in a contest the US would eventually lose, 5-3.
