UW Grappling Signs Washington State Champion
April 28, 2005
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steven Suder announced Thursday the signing of Cory Vom Baur of Vancouver, Wash., to a national letter of intent.
"Cory comes from great stock," said Suder. "His brother was a Division I All-American as a wrestler and a guy I consider to be an All-American individual. His parents are straight shooting, honest people and these are all things we see in Cory.
"The adjustment from high school to Division I will be easier on Cory than most because he has been exposed to it with his family already. We are excited to watch him develop as a Wyoming Cowboy."
Vom Baur won the 2005 Washington State Championship at 130 pounds and was a two-time runner-up as a freshman and a junior. His freshman year he wrestled at 103 pounds while his junior year he was at 125 pounds. He posted an overall high school record of 132-13 while at Evergreen High School. His senior year he was selected as a team captain. He is the son of William and Karen Von Baur and was coached in high school by Mark Castle. Von Baur will look to wrestle at 133 pounds for the Cowboys next season.
