LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming head wrestling coach Steven Suder announced Thursday the signing of Michael Malone of Casper, Wyo. to a national letter of intent.
Malone just wrapped up a great career at Natrona High School where he compiled an overall record of 106-34 as a four-year starter. He closed out his senior season with a dominating 28-1 record and a 4A State Championship in the 171 pound weight class. He also won the 4A 160 pound Wyoming State Championship his junior year. Malone is a two-time triple crown winner as he won Wyoming state titles in high school, freestyle and greco roman competition.
"It is a great feeling to know that I am going to be wrestling at the Division I level," said Malone. "When I saw the Cowboys compete this year I was real impressed. Coach Suder showed me around and I then decided that UW would be a good place for me."
Malone is set to compete this summer on a cultural exchange team that will travel to Italy. He plans on studying Criminal Justice while at UW. He is son of Craig and Teresa Malone of Casper, Wyo.
"Mike has been wrestling, exclusively, for a long time," commented Cowboy
wrestling coach Steven Suder. "We've had a chance to watch him over the last
three years and have seen his perseverance pay off over and over again. He
brings a great work ethic to the table, as well as a solid background that
will add quality depth to our upper/middle weights."
