Hitting the books proved to be beneficial for seven University of Wyoming wrestlers after it was announced Tuesday that they had earned conference academic honors.

The Western Wrestling Conference unveiled its All-Academic team and Coaches' Honor Roll recipients which featured seven Cowboys, including redshirt freshman Tanner Harms, senior Alfonso Hernandez, senior Michael Poulos, sophomore Leland Pfeifer, junior Jake Eitzen and redshirt freshmen Cole Ford and Benjamin Stroh.

The All-Academic team is made up of 18 student-athletes who maintained a 3.20 or higher cumulative grade-point average, along with being a starter or key reserve and a sophomore or higher in academic standing. The Coaches' Honor Roll recognized 46 student-athletes who maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

In late May, the Cowboys were one of just 30 teams in the nation to be honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for team academics. The Pokes finished 25th in the nation in team GPA with a cumulative 3.034 mark.

The Western Wrestling Conference is comprised of six schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
