Cowgirls Win Season Finale

In dominating fashion, the Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team closed out the regular season with a 73-59 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs, on Saturday afternoon.

The Cowgirls came out on fire from the beginning of the game, building a 10-2 early lead. They continued to build on that score taking their largest lead of the half at 33-15 with seven and a half minutes to go. They eventually took a 37-26 advantage into the break behind ten points and five rebounds by junior Christy Bacon.

Their dominance carried over into the second half, with great defense and sharp shooting. They gained their biggest lead of 25 points after two free throws by Shelby Hoffman with nine minutes left in the game. Despite a late run by the Aztecs, the Cowgirls went on to the 73-59 victory.

The Aztecs were led by Jamey Cox, who finished with a team high 21 points. Anita Bundage was the top rebounder with seven. The Aztecs were 22-53 (.418) from the field and 6-19 (.316) from beyond the arc.

The Cowgirls finished the night with four players in double-figures. Senior Jessica Gibbs finished with her ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Shelby Hoffman also finished her day with 16 points. The Cowgirls shot 46% (30-66) from the field, and outrebounded San Diego State, 35-31.

"I was really proud of how the kids played today," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "They really stuck to the game plan, we wanted to do some things defensively, and the last thing I said to them going out of the lockerroom was let our defense create our offense
