In their first overtime game of the season, the Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team (21-11 overall, 9-7 MWC) earned an 11-point victory, 68-57, over the Texas Tech Lady Raiders (18-15 overall, 5-11 Big 12) in the Second Round of the WNIT on Tuesday night in Laramie. The Cowgirls will now host the BYU Cougars, on Thursday, March 25. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

"This was a tremendous basketball game," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "I always tell my team that they need to play hard for 40 minutes and tonight we had to go for 45. That was a credit to both groups. Texas Tech put everything on the line and I was pleased with the way we responded when we were down five with three minutes to go. We talked during the timeout that there are plays to be made and this is what post season is about. You need to step up and need to make a play, whether it's a defensive rebound or knock down a shot, but every possession is important."

Three Cowgirls finished their night in double-figures led by sophomore Emma Langford. She recorded a career high 29 points along with seven rebounds. Hillary Carlson followed with 16 points and seven assists, while Aubrey Vandiver had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Wyoming was 21-56 (.375) from the field, 19-25 (.760) from the free throw line, while out rebounding the Lady Raiders 44-40.

"Once again the big three were outstanding. Aubrey with her double-double and was very big on the defensive boards. It was a tremendous break out game for Emma Langford. She got off to a great start and was just tremendous in the second half. Hillary Carlson had a nice game defensively."

Texas Tech was led by Chynna Brown with a team high 12 points in 33 minutes, while Kierra Mallard added ten points and a team high seven rebounds. The Lady Raiders were 25-69 (.362) from the field and just 4-22 (.182) from beyond the arc.

The Cowgirls took a 5-0 lead to begin the game and extended it to seven, 9-2. Texas Tech would score the next four points to pull within three, 9-6. Emma Langford would hit a three-point field goal out of the media timeout and then both teams would go a couple of minutes without scoring. Mallard would for the Lady Raiders while Hillary Carlson would complete a three point play to make it 15-8. Over the next several minutes the teams traded baskets as the Cowgirls continued to lead 19-15. Texas Tech would score the final 9 of 11 to take a 24-21 lead into the locker room.

Texas Tech scored quickly in the second half to make it 26-21, but a three point field goal by Jade Kennedy brought them to within two, 26-24. Hillary Carlson would follow that up with another three point shot to put Wyoming up one, 27-26. The teams would be tied up at 29 all through the first media timeout. The Cowgirls would come out and go on a 7-2 run to re-take a three point advantage 36-33. They continued to maintain a slight lead until the Lady Raiders scored six straight points to regain the lead, 46-42, with seven minutes to go in the game. A 5-0 run by the Cowgirls put them back up, 47-46, but a Jordan Barncastle basket gave TTU the one point lead, 48-47. They would increase that margin to five, 52-47, as the Cowgirls went cold. They would go three minutes before two Hillary Carlson free throws ended the drought. Emma Langford would hit a basket to pull the Cowgirls to within one, 52-51, and an Aubrey Vandiver free throw tied it up at 52 all with 57 seconds to go in the game. After a missed jumper by the Lady Raiders, the Cowgirls came down and Emma Langford would get a rebound and put-back with 15 seconds on the clock. Chynna Brown would hit a shot with time winding down to force the game into overtime, 54-54.

After a Texas Tech free throw, the Cowgirls would score four straight free throws to go up 58-55. Ashlee Roberson would hit a basket to pull them to within one, 58-57. An Emma Langford basket and two Hillary Carlson free throws put the Cowgirls up 62-57 with 1:15 on the clock. They would score the final six points of the game as they held the Lady Raiders scoreless in the final three minutes to give them a 68-57 victory.
