Cowgirls Win Final Exhibition Game
Nov. 8, 2001
Cheyenne, Wyo. -- In convincing fashion, the Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team closed out their exhibition season with a 90-55 victory over the Chadron State Eagles, on Thursday night, in Cheyenne.
Wyoming struck early in this game opening up with an 11-0 run. Chadron State tried to climb back into the half, but could only get as close as 17-15, before the Cowgirls opened their lead back up. They would go into halftime with a 35-24 advantage.
The Cowgirls continued their dominance in the second half, as the Eagles still struggled scoring only eight points in the first seven minutes of the second half. The game would never be close and the Cowgirls would go onto the 90-55 victory.
Three Cowgirls scored in double-figures on the night, including junior Carrie Bacon. She finished the night with a team high 28 (12-15) points, along with six rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Sophomores Darci Arsene and Ann McColl had 17 and 11 points respectively. McColl was also the leading rebounder with ten. As a team, Wyoming shot 35-68 (.515) from the field and 18-27 (.667) from the charity stripe. They also outrebounded the Eagles 45-36, while forcing them into 27 turnovers for the game.
"I was really happy with the way we played tonight, even though we came
out a little tight at the beginning," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "We
had a great crowd tonight and Chadron State played us close last season,
so I think we had a more nerves than usual. Overall, they worked hard,
plus one thing we've talked about was coming out strong in the second
half and we went on a run to begin the half. So, I felt we played well
defensively and several people saw some key minutes."
The Cowgirls finish the exhibition season with a perfect 2-0 record. They will open up the regular season, on Sunday Nov. 18, hosting the Sacramento State Hornets.
