"I was very happy tonight with the way we got out, shot the ball early and got into the flow of the game," said head coach Joe Legerski. "Kaitlyn got in hit some shots and really got us going then I thought Marquelle really controlled the tempo of the game all night long. She had three turnovers at half and I told her the biggest part is that we all looked at her 11 assists, but didn't she turn the ball over in the second half. What a great effort from her and Kayla, Kaitlyn and Jordan Sibrel. She grabbed some really big and tough rebounds. It was very tough and physical in there, but a solid effort all the way around."

SIUE would get on the board first with a three-point field goal by Ashley Capotosto, but the Cowgirls responded with eight straight points to go ahead 8-3. A basket by Finnin ended the run which was answered with a 5-2 run to give them a 13-7 advantage. The Cougars rallied back with nine straight points to regain the lead, 16-15. Woodward hit a shot to end the scoring drought for Wyoming and started a 9-2 run to go up by eight, 26-18, with 11:35 left in the first half. After a basket by Austin, the Cowgirls extended the lead to double-figures, 35-25, capped off by a Chelan Landry three-point shot. Over the next couple of minutes, the two times combined for eight points as Wyoming continued to maintain a 40-28 advantage. SIUE cut into that lead as they went on a 7-3 run to close the gap to eight, 43-35. A pair of free throws by Davis and a shot at the buzzer by Dent gave the Cowgirls a 47-38 lead going into the lockerroom.

Mileto led all Wyoming scorers at the half with 11 while Dent finished with nine and Woodward with eight. The Cowgirls were 17-35 (.486) from the field and out rebounded SIUE, 19-14.
