Casper, Wyo. (Dec. 15, 2001) -- The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team (3-5 overall), by the final score 70-55, lost to the Oregon State Beavers (4-5 overall), on Saturday night, in Casper, Wyo.

The Cowgirls opened up the game by taking the early 11-7 lead. They maintained an advantage until Oregon State would take a one point lead with three minutes left in the half. The two teams would exchange baskets, but a big three-point shot at the end of the half by Carly Stucky gave the Cowgirls a 31-29 lead going into halftime.

Oregon State opened up the second half by going on a 9-4 run to take a 38-35 lead. The Cowgirls would go on a 10-5 run to regain a 45-43 advantage. But with the score tied at 45 all, the Beavers would outscore the Cowgirls 25-10 in the final eight and a half minutes to win the game 70-55.

Oregon State guard Felicia Ragland was the leading scorer and rebounder in the game finishing with 29 points and nine rebounds. The Beavers finished the night shooting 25-59 (.424) from the field.

Wyoming was led in scoring by sophomore guard Carly Stucky, who finished with 15 points. Carrie Bacon led the team with seven boards, along with chipping in ten points. As a team, the Cowgirls were only 17-49 (.347) from the field and committed 18 turnovers.

"This game really came down to a ten minute breakdown in the game," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "We couldn't stop them and they continued to score, while we had four or five possessions that we couldn't and against a team like Oregon State you have to make defensive stops and get the ball in the basket. We're really struggling shooting the ball right now and it's something we need to continue to work on."

The next game for the Cowgirls will be Friday, Dec. 21, when they will host Texas Pan-AM at 7:00 p.m.
