The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball Team (9-1 overall) recorded a dominating victory, 78-40, over the Weber State Wildcats (6-6 overall), on Friday, in Laramie.

"Tonight we talked about coming about with focus and energy because we knew Weber State would play hard," said UW head coach Joe Legerski. "We got off to a great start offensively by jumping out to an 11-2 lead. Weber State upped the intensity and we matched it. This was the same team that had us down 21 at halftime last year. I was very pleased with how we came out and played a complete 40 minutes."

Four players finished the night in double-figures led by redshirt junior Aubrey Vandiver. She recorded her third straight double-double with 16 points and a career high 17 rebounds. Jade Kennedy and Kristen Scheffler each added 12 points, while Hillary Carlson added 11 and four blocked shots. The Cowgirls shot 28-55 (.509) from the field, 9-16 (.563) from beyond the arc and recorded 12 blocked shots.

"The play of Aubrey Vandiver was extremely big for us. Not only did she get a double-double but to have 17 rebounds and 16 points, she worked hard on both ends of the court. Then you look at our scoring, what makes this team so strong is that we can score from a number of positions. We had five other players that scored at least nine points or more. It was a tremendous team effort."

Weber State was led by Caitlin Anderson with ten points and four rebounds. Sarah Conner followed with nine points and Tonya Schnibbe with six. The Wildcats shot 16-58 (.276) from the field and 1-13 (.077) from beyond the arc.

After Weber State Scored the first basket of the game, The Cowgirls responded with 11 straight points including six by Emma Langford to make it 11-2. Out of the media timeout, Wyoming went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 14, 16-2. The Wildcats went almost seven minutes before two free throws ended their drought. Over the next several minutes, the Cowgirls continued to maintain their double-figure lead even increasing it to 20, 32-12. WSU tried to close the gap and scored the final two baskets of the half but the Cowgirls still took a 32-16 lead into the lockerroom.

Wyoming came out and went on a 7-0 run to begin the second half to make the lead 39-16. The Wildcats responded by scoring eight of nine to bring the score to 18, 40-22. The Cowgirls stormed back with 17 unanswered to increase the lead to 35, 57-22. Weber State went almost five minutes without scoring before two free throws by Tonya Schnibbe ended the drought. Wyoming's lead was never in jeopardy as they cruised to the 78-40 victory.

The Cowgirls will play their final game before the Christmas break as they host the Oregon Ducks, on Sunday, Dec. 20. The game is set to tip off at 2 p.m.
