Cowgirl Basketball Begins Mountain West Play On The Road

The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will open up the 2013 Mountain West season on the road against the Boise State Broncos. The game is set for Wednesday, January 9, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Boise. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com. The Cowgirls were picked fourth in the MW preseason poll, while the Broncos were selected seventh.
Wyoming finished the non-conference season with an 11-2 overall record and head into the contest riding a three-game winning streak. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.9 points and a league leading 10.3 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows with 13.0 points and 6.2 rebounds while Kailtyn Mileto is adding 12.4 points. Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.6 points and 6.0 boards as well.
The Cowgirls are first in the league in scoring offense (71.8 ppg) and assists (15.1 aspg). They are also shooting 328-716 (.458) from the field and 92-221 (.416) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league.
Boise State enters the week with a 7-6 non-conference mark. They defeated the College of Idaho, 61-47, in their last time out. The Broncos are led by Lauren Lenhardt who is averaging a team high 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds. Miquelle Askew and Brandi Henton are each adding 8.2 points. They return two starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 15-16 overall and 5-9 in the Mountain West a year ago.
This will be the tenth meeting between the two schools. Boise State leads the series 5-4. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 25, 2012 as the Broncos defeated the Cowgirls 61-53 in Boise. They are coached by Gordy Presnell who is in his eighth season with the program.
