Cowgirls to Host Cougars

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming women's basketball team will have one game this week as they welcome the BYU Cougars, on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

The Cowgirls are 12-3 overall and 2-2 in MWC play after a split last weekend with a 64-55 win over Air Force and a tough 62-39 loss to New Mexico. Wyoming is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore Hanna Zavecz who is averaging 13.9 points and six rebounds along with 3.9 assists and 2.4 steals per game. She is followed by Jodi Bolerjack with 12.7 points per game and Megan McGuffey with 8.9 points per game. Wyoming enters the weekend ranked first in the conference in scoring defense allowing just 52.4 points per game and is among the top three in several other categories in the league.

The Cougars are currently 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the MWC. BYU is led by Ambrosia Anderson who is averaging 20.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. They come in to this season with two returning starters and 11 letterwinners from a team that went 19-11 overall and 9-5 in the MWC a year ago.

This will be the 59th meeting between the two schools. BYU leads the series 41-17. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 12, 2005 as Wyoming defeated the Cougars 75-56 in Laramie. BYU is coached by Jeff Judkins who is in his fifth year with the program.
