Cowgirl Basketball Begins Second Half Of Conference Play Saturday

The Wyoming women's basketball team will begin the second time through in Mountain West play as they welcome the Boise State Broncos, on Saturday, Feb. 9. The game is set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. The WBCA's Play 4Kay is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Cowgirls are currently 17-4 overall and 6-2 in MW play after an 82-67 win over Colorado State last Saturday. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.8 points and a league leading 9.5 rebounds. Kayla Woodward is scoring a team high 14.9 points and 6.1 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 13.1 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 10.8 points and 5.5 boards as well.
Wyoming is first in the league in scoring offense (72.9 ppg), rebounding margin (+8.9) and assists (15.9 aspg). They are also shooting 544-199 (.454) from the field and 142-369 (.385) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they are first in scoring offense, rebounding margin and assists, second in free throw and field goal percentage and scoring defense.
Boise State enters the week with a 10-11 overall record and 3-5 in the MW. They are led by Lauren Lenhardt who is averaging a team high 15.0 points and 7.2 rebounds. Brandi Henton follows with 9.3 points and Miquelle Askew follows with 7.2 points per game. They return two starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 15-16 overall and 5-9 in the Mountain West a year ago. This will be the 11th meeting between the two schools. Boise State leads the series 6-4. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 9, 2013 as the Broncos defeated the Cowgirls 70-68 in Boise. They are coached by Gordy Presnell who is in his eighth season with the program.
In conjunction with the game, the University of Wyoming Athletics Department is sponsoring the Ninth Annual Walk for Women. All proceeds from the event directly benefiting the Play 4 Kay Foundation. The walk will be held in the Arena Auditorium Concourse with registration set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $30 per person or $15 for youth (6th Grade and under) and $15 for UW Students. All participants will receive a t-shirt and lunch along with free admission to the Wyoming vs. Boise State WBB game at 2:00 p.m. Registration can be completed at www.gowyo.com, the University of Wyoming Athletics Department or the Brown and Gold Outlet. The Stadium parking lot, east of War Memorial Stadium, will also be available for all Walk for Women participants this Saturday. Fans will be allowed to park in the lot all day for both the walk and the game.
