Carrie Bacon Named Second Team Academic All-District VII

Carrie Bacon, a sophomore on the University of Wyoming women's basketball team, was selected on Thursday as a Second Team GTE Academic All-District VII honoree. Bacon, who has earned a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average in exercise and sport science, was one of only 10 individuals to earn First or Second Team honors. Only First Team honorees are eligible for the national ballot. The Academic All-America team will be announced later this spring.
The GTE Academic All-District and Academic All-America Teams are sponsored by GTE Corporation. Student-athletes are selected in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). CoSIDA District VII is made up of the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be at least a sophomore and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team's games.
Bacon is also an Academic All-Conference and Academic Scholar-Athlete selection. A year ago, Bacon was named Second Team All-Conference and was also named to the All-Newcomer team for the Western Athletic Conference as a freshman.
She currently leads the Cowgirls in scoring (17.3 points per game), rebounding (8.0 rpg) and minutes played (35.9 mpg). The Cowgirls are currently 8-15, 2-8 in the Mountain West Conference. Bacon ranks second in the Mountain West Conference in scoring this season (17.3 ppg). She ranks third in the MWC in rebounding (8.0 rpg), and ranks No. 8 in the league in free-throw percentage (.734).
