Cowgirl Basketball Battles Top Seed San Diego State In Semifinals

For only the fourth time ever, the Cowgirls will play in the semifinals of the Mountain West Championships and will face the top seed San Diego State Aztecs. The game is set for 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Live stats can be followed or audio can be found on WyomingAthletics.com. The game will also be broadcast on The Mtn. Sports Network (Channel 412 in Laramie).
Wyoming is currently 12-16 overall and 7-7 in Mountain West play after defeating TCU 61-44 in the quarterfinals. The Cowgirls are led by Chaundra Sewell who is averaging a team high 13.5 points and 8.8 rebounds. Freshman Kayla Woodward follows with 12.1 points and 5.5 rebounds, while junior Ashley Sickles is adding 11.5 points plus 6.0 rebounds per game. As a team, they are shooting 579-1460 (.397) from the field and 135-465 (.290) from beyond the arc.
SDSU is currently 23-6 overall and finished 12-2 in the Mountain West. They won their opening round game 68-58 over Air Force. Courtney Clements is averaging a team high 17.3 points along with 5.2 rebounds. Chelsea Hopkins follows with 10.2 points while Chaires Culberson averages a team high 5.5 rebounds. They return two starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 12-17 overall and 6-10 in the MW.
This is the 44th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 24-20. The last time the two teams met was February 21, 2012 as the Aztecs defeated the Cowgirls, 68-55, in Laramie. SDSU is coached by Beth Burns who is in her 15th season with the program.
