Cowgirl Basketball Set to Battle Boise State in Opening Round of 2014 Reese's MW Championships

Cowgirl Basketball Suffers 13-point Loss, 72-59, Against Broncos
A tough shooting night and turnovers plagued the Cowgirl basketball team as they suffered a 13-point loss, 72-59, to the Boise State Broncos, on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls are now 19-8 overall on the season and 10-6 in the Mountain West while the Broncos are now 16-11 and 11-5 in league play.

The Wyoming basketball team will face the Boise State Broncos in the quarterfinals of the Reese's Mountain West Tournament. The game is set for Tuesday, March 11 at 3:30 p.m. MT at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Cowgirls are 19-10 overall and 10-8 in MW action after a disappointing 58-46 loss against Colorado State on Friday night. Kayla Woodward is averaging a team high 16.8 points plus 7.0 rebounds, while Fallon Lewis is adding 14.7 points and a team high 9.6 rebounds. Kaitlyn Mileto follows with 13.9 points and Marquelle Dent leads the way with 4.7 assists plus 10.0 points per game. In league games, Woodward finished third in scoring (16.7 ppg) and ninth in rebounding (6.9 rpg). Mileto was ninth in scoring with 14.6 points per game, while Lewis led the league in rebounding with 9.9 per game.

Wyoming is third in the league in assists (15.7 aspg), scoring offense (73.0 ppg) and scoring defense (64.7 ppg), plus fourth in rebounding margin. They are also shooting 193-557 (.347) from beyond the arc and 732-1737 (.421) from the field, which are second and fourth respectively. In Mountain West games, they are second in assists, fourth in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage and scoring offense.

Boise State is 17-12 overall, 12-6 in MW action and enters the tournament as the fourth seed. Last time out, the Broncos defeated Air Force, 75-44, in Boise. They are led by Deanna Weaver who averages a team high 13.1 points and 6.4 rebounds. Miquelle Askew follows with 13.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. They return three starters and five letterwinners to a team that went 11-19 overall and 4-12 in the MW last year.

This will be 14th meeting between the two schools. Boise State leads the series 7-6. The two teams split the season series. Wyoming defeated Boise State, 55-48, on January 11, 2014, in Laramie, while the last time the two teams met was March 1, 2014 as the Broncos beat the Cowgirls, 72-59, in Boise. They are coached by Gordy Presnell who is in his ninth season with the program.
