May 1, 2001
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
University of Wyoming Cowgirl head basketball coach Cindy Fisher today completed her 2000-01 recruiting class by signing one student-athlete to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2001. Here is the signee:
Sara Hippen, 6-3, Center, La Porte City, Iowa.: A First Team All-State selection by the Associated Press of Iowa at Union High School in La Porte City, Iowa. She was also named Second Team All-State by the Des Moines Register, while helping her team to a 25-1 overall record, losing in the state semi-finals. Hippen averaged 17 points, ten rebounds, was 68% from the field and 71% from the free throw line during her senior year. Recently, she was named the MVP of the Iowa East-West All-Star Game. Hippen also played and lettered in three other sports, including volleyball, softball and track and field. Coached in high school by Robert Driscol, Sara is the daughter of Gary and Mary Jo Hippen. She chose Wyoming over several schools.
"We are very excited about the addition of Sara to our 2001 recruiting class," said head coach Cindy Fisher. "As a four-sport athlete, she brings great mobility and size to the post position. Due to this years' talented recruiting class and the high commitment level of our returnees, we look forward to a successful 2001-2002 season."
Hippen is the fifth signee for the Cowgirls this year. They signed four
athletes during the early signing period, which include Ashley Elliott
(5-7, G, Flagstaff, Ariz.), Kristen Lenhardt (6-1, F, Ft. Collins,
Colo.), Kelly McRee (5-10, G/F, Phoenix, Ariz.), and Dafina Tucker (6-3,
C, Aurora, Colo.)
